Growing pains???

So if you go back to May of 2008, there is a post about when Madison fell at my grandma's house and scraped her knee. Not a big deal, but ever since then she gets up about 2-3 times a week in the middle of the night crying that her knee hurts. Its a good 30-45 minutes of crying, Motrin, a hot pad and rubbing her leg until she goes back to sleep. So at first, I thought it must still be sensitive from when she fell. But as the months went by, I started asking around, and decided it must be growing pains. But here it is 8 months later, and we are still dealing with knee pain. On Thursday she even woke up from her nap complaining about it. I decided that I had better take her to the doctor to have him look at it. We went in and explained the situation, and he agreed that after 8 months it shouldn't still be bugging her. He opted for an x-ray just to be sure there were no fractures, cysts, or tumors. After a knee and hip x-ray, our pediatrician, Dr. Valentine, agreed that it must be growing pains. Her x-rays looked completely normal. Thank goodness! Even though it was quite the ordeal, just to have the reassurance that its nothing is so comforting. Maybe it was a waste of time and money, but I think a mothers piece of mind is whats most important. Thanks goodness for doctors!

This is her hip

I do just have to say that the guy who did her x-ray was amazing! His name was Bill, and he was so cute. Maybe around 60 years old, with a cute southern accent. He was so patient with her, and even though she screamed bloody murder when I made her lay on the table, he showed her everything and made her very comfortable. I, being preggo, had to go stand on the other side of the wall, so I just got to watch from a window. He was super cute with her, and by the time we were done, she was laughing. What a nice guy!

Ethan used to complain about his knee hurting all the time too. I even took him into the doc once, only to find out nothing was wrong. What is it with knees?

He wakes up a couple times a month nowadays and cries that his legs hurt, so I have to rub them for a few minutes and then he is fine.

I'm glad she's okay! I agree - the peace of mind is totally worth all the trouble!

I love that Bill made Maddie so comfortable while he was doing the X rays...there is nothing like a kind soul who connects with kids when things are a bit scary for them. I'm glad Maddie's okay and that it turned out to just be growing pains. And yes, you cannot put a pricetag on a mother's peace of mind. Period. :o)

That is so funny you mentioned this...Noah came in the other night complaining about his leg and I figured it was probably growing pains, but ya never know. I gave him some Motrin and rubbed his leg for a bit until he fell asleep. I'm glad Maddie is okay and there's nothing serious! Gotta love Dr. Valentine!

Millie wakes up crying about her knee hurting ALL the time. I finally realized it's probably growing pains. I'm so glad that Maddie's x-rays came back normal.
